The “Mediterranean” decoration by LPWK – Emma Silvestris is the most recent example of a decoration that has been so successful that it has led to the creation of a family.
It is a big bowl designed for lovers, who can eat ice cream together and therefore provided with a big spoon. One of the first results of the F.F.F. (Family Follows Fiction) , an operation in the early 1990s that aimed to explore the affective structure of shapes and objects, starting from the idea of reproducing the object creation process followed by children and primitive cultures. The result is a family of playful objects reminiscent of fairytale characters: they offer attractive answers to everyday uses, they suggest mediation through playing, and they’re a bridge to the world of the imagination.
The basket “Kaleidos” was designed by Naoko Shintani. The designer took her inspiration from the Japanese tradition of origami with the aim of reproducing the dynamism of folded paper in metal. The result is an object which, as the name suggests, recalls a kaleidoscope which reflects and multiplies its content in an infinite series of cross-references. Its reduced size makes it suitable for use as a basket, a fruit holder or a generic container.

Designed by Claudia Raimondo, the shape & decoration of the “Joy” centerpiece is created through a sophisticated and contemporary molding technique. The faces of the object create its form: large and open with undefined edges and with a fascinating play of reflections that are reminiscent of objects handmade in precious metals. The texture evokes the backgrounds of the digital world and reinterprets steel by playing on the elusiveness of the design, which makes the object look like something smooth and natural even if it crystallized into a solid matter.
A selection of the objects that the Catalan architect Luis Closet, has designed for Alessi, starting from the “Saria” Basket for the kitchen and the living room is now presented in a new color version obtained with a special epoxy covering in white and black. With the aid of our color research consultant Claudia Raimondo, we’re using a technology that makes the surface waterproof: drops slide amazingly over it without actually wetting it.
